Eric Cornell- Seven Years with One Arm

Eric Cornell, along with Carl Wieman, synthesized the first Bose–Einstein condensate in 1995. They both share a 2001 Nobel Prize for Physics with Wolfgang Ketterle.

He knows he woke up in a hospital, but he doesn’t remember it. He recalls wondering if his arm was wrapped in gauze, out of sight beneath the sheets. Then he realized. His left arm and shoulder had been amputated in a last ditch effort to save his life.

Initiative 300: Denver Votes No

Denver voters were asked to decide if business should be required to offer mandatory sick leave to their workers. Initiative 300 was endorsed by labor unions and restaurant workers – but not by owners and business interests. And in the end voters overwhelmingly said “no”. Colorado Public Radio’s Eric Whitney has more.

Vote counting ended early in Fort Collins Tuesday night due to inclement weather. At 10 pm, Question 300 was leading in the preliminary elections results. That left proponents declaring victory – and opponents waiting until a final vote count.
