Northeastern Colorado is fast becoming the site of one of the country’s next big oil booms as new technologies surrounding hydraulic fracturing are allowing companies to get a piece of the Niobrara Shale. Previously deemed too expensive to drill, the Niobrara formation that extends from beneath Denver all the way to western Nebraska is thought to hold more than a billion barrels of oil. The only trouble is much of the land atop it is home to one of the country’s fastest growing regions.
Colorado farmers are upset with the Obama Administration over a proposal to change child labor laws for kids under the age of 18 who work in agriculture; a move that's stemmed from several high-profile accidents involving kids on farms around the country.
Republicans are up in arms after a commission charged with redrawing state house districts picked Democratic maps. The Colorado Supreme Court originally rejected the commission's bi-partisan maps, saying they split up too many counties. KUNC’s State Capitol reporter Bente Birkeland has more.
