100% Containment Expected On Hewlett Fire Today

U.S. Forest Service

Warm temperatures are expected in Fort Collins today, but it shouldn’t stop firefighters from fully containing the Hewlett Fire northwest of town.

On Monday, crews brought containment of the fire to 94 percent with no discernible fire spread.

Today, two helicopters are assigned to the fire. Crews are expected to work primarily on monitoring, mopping up, and patrolling. Warming weather today is likely to make hot spots of the fire put up smoke.

Officials say it was a camp stove that started the fire last week. The camper attempted to stfiromp it out, but was unsuccessful and contacted authorities.

The cost of fighting the fire has reached $3.2 million.
