Colorado has been awarded $5.2 million to help raise student achievement at some of the state’s lowest performing schools. The money comes from the U.S. Department of Education’s School Improvement Grant program. Colorado has been provided SIG money in past years.

  • FY2009: $6,119,330
  • FY2010: $5,933,129
  • FY2011: $5,775,664

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan said in a statement, “turning around our lowest-performing schools is hard work but it’s our responsibility. These School Improvement Grants are helping some of the lowest-achieving schools provide a better education for students who need it the most.”

The 10 states included in Monday's announcement include:

  1. Texas to receive $49.7 million
  2. Louisiana to receive $9.6 million
  3. Indiana to receive $9.2 million
  4. Oklahoma to receive $5.5 million
  5. Colorado to receive $5.2 million
  6. Iowa to receive $3 million
  7. Nebraska to receive $2.6 million
  8. Alaska to receive $1.5 million
  9. North Dakota to receive $1.2 million
  10. Wyoming to receive $1.1 million
