Additional Crews Coming to Fight the Crystal Fire, Weather Cooperating

Larimer County spokesperson John Schultz expects four additional 20-person crews will be added to those already battling the 4,500 acre Crystal fire west of Ft. Collins. That would take the total number of firefighters to 280.

Wet weather over the weekend helped firefighters but a change from cold weather to windy, warmer temperatures today could make battling the blaze more difficult. Schultz says he expects the number of acres burned to go up today. The fire is reported to be 5 percent contained. The evacuation center at Big Thompson Elementary School remained open last night even after evacuation orders were lifted. It was been closed this morning.  The American Red Cross remains on standby to reopen the center if needed.
