The New York Times today catches up on the month-or-so-old story of Enrico Ponzo, who authorities believe fled a life of violent crime with a New England mob for a much different existence as Jeffrey John "Jay" Shaw on a ranch in Idaho.
We don't usually point out other organizations' takes on somewhat old news, but this passage in the Times story is worth noting for a nice turn of phrase:
"In time, as he began raising two children and 12 cows on his 12 acres, prosecutors say Jay earned a stature no mob boss could ever confer on Enrico.
"He became a remade man."
Ponzo/Shaw, who's said to be 42, is to be extradited to Massachusetts. He's wanted in connection with several cases going back to the early '90s.
As the AP reported last month, "the charges included trying to kill former mob boss Frank 'Cadillac Frank' Salemme."
