Board Rejects Alcohol Road Name Change

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

Good morning. I'm Steve Inskeep.

On this day when we hear of the arrest of Boston gangster Whitey Bulger, we have another name from the annals of New England crime. In Greenwood, Maine, legislators have decided they will not rename Alcohol Mary Road. It's named after a prohibition bootlegger. A local man says it defames his grandmother Mary - no relation - but the Sun Journal Newspaper says local residents consider Alcohol Mary a historical figure and a source of pride.
