Bob Bradley has been relieved of his duties as the head coach of United States National Team for men's soccer.
U.S. Soccer President Sunil Gulati thanked Bradley for his five years at the helm of the team but said now is the right time to make change. "It is always hard to make these decisions, especially when it involves someone we respect as much as Bob," Gulati said.
Bradley led the team to win the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, finished second in the 2009 FIFA Confederations Cup and reached the Round of 16 of the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa.
But, as Reuters reports, Bradley has been "facing mounting pressure to keep his job after the Americans underperformed at last month's CONCACAF Gold Cup. The team struggled to make the final, and then lost to Mexico."
No immediate announcement has been made regarding who would replace him. U.S. Soccer said it would make a further announcement on Friday, with speculation pointing to Jurgen Klinsmann. The German legend has been courted for the job before, twice coming close to taking it.
