Breaking News: Mubarak To Speak; Expected To Say He Won't Run
The dramatic events in Egypt, where for more than a week protesters have filled the streets of Cairo and other cities to demand that President Hosni Mubarak step down, look like they're going to take another dramatic turn shortly. The Al Arabiya news network has been reporting that Mubarak will address his nation this evening (Cairo is 7 hours ahead of the U.S. East Coast).
And now (2:45 p.m. ET) other news networks are saying he will announce he's not going to seek re-election. (4:15 p.m. ET: As expected, Mubarak said he will not seek re-election — but plans to remain in office until a new president is elected and sworn-in.)
