Electronic Arts Buys PopCap For $750 Million

STEVE INSKEEP, host:

NPR's business news starts with the big business of games.

(Soundbite of music)

INSKEEP: A Seattle company called PopCap makes simple but addictive games people play on the Internet, on smartphones or on tablets. And now it's being bought by a traditional video game company for $750 million. Electronic Arts is watching gamers migrate from discs and video game consoles to the Internet. More and more games or gamers are wiling away the hours on games like "Bejeweled." That's a PopCap game or "Angry Birds."

Electronic Arts is buying PopCap in part to compete with another successful online game maker, Zynga. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
