Capitol Conversation: Rewriting The School Finance Act

A major re-write of how Colorado funds K through 12 schools is now making its way through the state legislature. It’s an annual bill – but this year one state lawmaker wants to add even more money to it despite the objections of others.

KUNC’s Bente Birkeland breaks down the bill with fellow statehouse reporters and talks about its prospects for passage.

Bente Birkeland is an award-winning journalist who joined Colorado Public Radio in August 2018 after a decade of reporting on the Colorado state capitol for the Rocky Mountain Community Radio collaborative and KUNC. In 2017, Bente was named Colorado Journalist of the Year by the Society of Professional Journalists (SPJ), and she was awarded with a National Investigative Reporting Award by SPJ a year later.
