Don’t put away the shovels and snowblowers just yet. Another snow storm is heading toward the state -- even as Front Range residents are digging out from this one.
More than a foot of snow was reported in Nederland and Estes Park as of Tuesday morning, prompting the closure of Estes Park schools. Find other school closings and delays here.
About 10 inches of snow fell in the Denver area. Fort Collins received more than nine inches of snow yesterday, and Boulder saw more than a foot.
Another band of snow developing Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday, will bring an additional 1 to 4 inches to the Front Range.
National Weather Service meteorologist Kyle Fredin says it’s not unusual to see this kind of winter weather in April.
“This is pretty normal, if you look back over 142 years -- this is what we like to see,” Fredin says. “I think we’re a little thrown off, because the last 3-10 years have been kind of dry - we’ve been in kind of an extensive drought. But this is good to see. We could even see this into early May, with a mixture of rain and snow.”
The snowpack is now 77 percent of average, up from 69 percent a week ago.
The northern and central mountains are under a winter storm warning from 3:00 pm Tuesday through midnight Wednesday. Forecasters say the storm could bring up to 2 feet of new snow to the northern mountains by Wednesday night.
