Colorado Gives Day Raises $12 Million

Creative Commons

Officials are reporting thatColorado Gives Day brought in $12 million dollars for more than 900 Colorado charities.

The 1-day event was originally scheduled to end yesterday, but the deadline was extended to 12 o’clock today after traffic and computer glitches slowed down donations.

“The donors stuck with us,” says Dana Rinderknec, manager for Giving First. “It was a 150 percent increase in the number of donations that came through the site so more people were giving.”

On Tuesday, nonprofits like United Way of Weld County and New Era Colorado were scrambling to field phone calls and take donations while the Colorado Gives Day web site was down.

Donations for Colorado Gives Day 2011 increased by 40 percent compared to the previous year.
