CSU Donations are Up, Mirrors Recent National Trends

KUNC

Colorado State University brought in $111.6 million in private donations last year. It’s a 31 percent jump that marks the most successful period for raising private donations.

The boost is connected to the successful initiative, Campaign for Colorado State. The Campaign brought in more than $500 million overall, and was used to fund scholarships, endow chairs and renovate facilities.

Today's announcement marks the end of the campaign.

CSU’s increase reflects what appears to be a nationwide trend in giving to colleges and universities in 2011, according to a February 2012 report by the Council for Aid to Education [.pdf]. The voluntary survey found university charitable contributions increased $30.3 billion nationwide in 2011 after years of stagnant or declining donations.

In Colorado, state funding is declining for public universities, but the downward trend has slowed down. This budget year CSU is seeing a $2.25 million decrease. That’s compared to $23 million the previous budget year.
