CU, CSU Calling for Sportsmanship Ahead of Annual Rival Game

Tomorrow marks the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown in Denver, when thousands of football fans will descend on Sports Authority Field to watch the University of Colorado square off with Colorado State University. The rivalry typically comes with it its fair share of melees and alcohol-fueled disturbances, and officials from both schools are ramping up calls for better sportsmanship among students and fans of the schools.  This week student leaders from both schools sent a joint email urging students and fans to display sportsmanship and class at the game; a call that’s being reiterated by university administrators, says CU-Boulder spokesman Bronson Hilliard.

"We want to root hard for our respective teams," Hilliard said. "We want our students to arrive safely, have a great time, stay sober, and arrive back in Boulder and Fort Collins safe and sober as well."

CU leads the overall series that began in 1883 by 60-2-, but comes into tomorrow’s game 0-2 after losing to Caland Hawaii in Coach Jon Embree's first season.  CSU is 2-0 after beating New Mexico and the University of Northern Colorado.
