Denver Will Ring In Start Of Hanukkah
By Emily Boyer
The bells of the Denver City and County Building will chime in as Hanukkah begins at sundown. Songs of Hanukkah will be played from 7:30 to 8 p.m.
The Denver Post reports that more than 40 volunteers have signed up to sound the building’s more than 18,000 pounds of bells during the December holidays.
The Jewish Festival of Lights is an eight day celebration beginning Dec. 8 and ending Dec. 16.
The City and County Building also boasts the largest lighting display in Denver. The 600,000 lights are turned on around 6 p.m. each night through January 2013.
Here's video of this year's display.
The tradition of lighting the center of the city and county dates back to 1926.
