Lawsuits over horse breeding materials destroyed in a July fire in Colorado State University lab could be brewing. The blaze did extensive damage to CSU’s Equine Reproductive Lab.
In advance of today’s deadline, dozens of owners affected have filed notices with the state that will secure their right to pursue legal action. Horse breeder Charlie Cox has filed one of those notices. He estimates he lost thousands.
“Depending on how you want to look at it, it could be as little as $15,000 or as much as $50,000-$60,000,” he said.
CSU says it was not responsible for insuring the materials, and that most contracts signed by clients clearly stated that. The university is currently offering a $1,000 credit toward future services to horse owners in exchange for an agreement to not pursue legal action.
