Electric Fence To Blame For Galena Fire

Grace Hood

A Larimer County resident attempting to make an electrical connection for an electric fence generated a spark that resulted in the 1,348-acre Galena Fire.

The wildfire started March 15 near Lory State Park and prompted hundreds of evacuations. No deaths were reported and no structureswere destroyed.

Larimer County Sheriff’s Department and the Poudre Fire Authority publicly announced the results of the fire investigation Wednesday. A press release said the spark ignited dried grass. The resident attempted to extinguish the fire with a garden hose while another person called 911.

The cause of the Galena Fire is determined to be accidental. Right now, authorities do not have evidence that would support criminal charges connected to the wildfire.
