Several commemorative events and a fundraiser are planned this week marking the one year anniversary of the Four Mile Canyon fire west of Boulder which destroyed 169 homes and damaged scores more.An oral history project begins this month at the Boulder Public Library and two community dinners commemorating the anniversary are planned.

Amy Hardy is four mile recovery resources coordinator for Foothills United Way.  She's also a firefighter who was a first responder when the blaze sparked in Four Mile Canyon one year ago. Beyond the rebuilding process, she says mental health support is still a big need for fire victims.

"It's fire season in Colorado in the mountains, so we're all aware of the possibility of this happening again," Hardy says. "I think it just brings up the emotions of that day all over again."

Foothills United Way and five of Boulder's top chefs are also holding a fundraiser at the Gold Hill Inn this Wednesday with proceeds going to local fire departments and the United Way's mental health voucher program - which gives fire victims from $500 to $1500 worth of counseling.
