Hydraulic fracturing will be banned within Longmont city limits as voters approve ballot question 300.
Hydraulic fracturing or “fracking,” a drilling process that uses high pressure fluid to extract oil and gas from rock deposits deep underground, has been banned within Longmont city limits.
Any disposal of the waste created by fracking, including open pit storage has also been banned with the passage of 300.
Opponents have said that if ballot question 300 passed the city will be facing litigation on the ban, while supporters said the ban was necessary to protect Longmont from the environmental effects of fracking.
