"A massive fuel tank fire at Miami International Airport overnight has caused American Airlines to cancel 22 outbound and 14 inbound flights Thursday," the Miami Herald says. "In addition to American — which makes up about 70 percent of MIA's traffic — other airlines are reporting flight delays."
Phil Latzman of South Florida's WLRN reported for the NPR Newscast that the fire was reported around 11 p.m. ET last night and that at its height, the flames and smoke could be seen for miles. "It was brought under control two hours later," he reports. But airport officials say the airport lost a lot of fuel: it's at 40 percent of capacity.
CBS Miami filed this report earlier today, which has video of the dramatic blaze. It says that "a preliminary investigation into the cause has found that a malfunction near one of the fuel pipelines most likely sparked the fire."
