Keith Olbermann attends the 2006 Summer Television Critics Association Press Tour. Friday night, Olbermann announced it was his final night at MSNBC.

Very little is known about this story yet, but Keith Olbermann abruptly announced tonight that it was his last edition of Countdown. MSNBC's statement, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter, is very limited and says only that Olbermann and the network have "ended their contract" as of tonight's episode, and that "MSNBC thanks Keith for his integral role in MSNBC's success and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

Olbermann's farewell is below. It includes an anecdote about his sign-off at ESPN, as well as a list of people he thanks for their support, including the late Tim Russert, whom Olbermann calls his "greatest protector and most indefatigable cheerleader."
