KUNC Wins Four Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

RTNDA

The Radio Television Digital News Association has recognized KUNC reporters Grace Hood and Kirk Siegler with four regional Edward R. Murrow Awards for excellence in journalism. The awards were given in region three in the U.S., which includes Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming.

Hood won in the Investigative Category after spending six months examining the way traumatic brain injuries are diagnosed at Fort Carson. The story was co-reported with freelance military reporter Michael de Yoanna. Hood also won in the Sports Category for a story profiling a small group of athletes who help disabled youth participate in triathlons.

Kirk Siegler was recognized in the News Series Category for Roadblocks to Clean Energy, an in-depth series of reports examining energy issues in the west, produced as part of collaboration with Wyoming Public Radio. Siegler was also honored in the Breaking News Category for his coverage of last September's Four Mile Canyon Wildfire.

The RTDNA has been honoring outstanding achievements in journalism with the Edward R. Murrow Awards since 1971. Murrow Award recipients demonstrate the spirit of excellence that Edward R. Murrow made a standard for the broadcast news profession. Regional winners automatically become eligible for the national awards competition, which will be judged in early June.
