Atari Returns To Focus On Internet, Mobile Games

RENEE MONTAGNE, host:

The face of video games used to be this little blip crossing a screen.

(Soundbite of the video game "Pong")

MONTAGNE: The game "Pong" was cutting edge in 1972. Now after several deaths and resuscitations, Atari, the company behind "Pong," is back again. So our last word in business is boomer app.

Atari is now focusing on Internet and mobile games. It recently launched an app called "Atari's Greatest Hits." It's a collection of classic arcade games -including "Asteroids" and "Battlezone" - refitted for mobile screens.

Hard to know if it's reaching a new generation, but the new app already has three million downloads.

And that's the business news on MORNING EDITION, from NPR News. I'm Renee Montagne.
