In a scene right out of an Indiana Jones movie, investigators came upon gold coins, jewelry, gold statues, diamonds, and other precious gems. In all, the treasure is estimated to be worth about $20 billion.

MONTAGNE: That's $20 billion. The treasures had been sealed off for more than 130 years in the temple, which was originally built by a royal family that once ruled part of southern India. Descendants still run the shrine but there's been dispute over whether it should become public property - that's what led to the audit.

INSKEEP: That's the business news on MORNING EDITION from NPR News. I'm Steve Inskeep.

MONTAGNE: And I'm Renee Montagne. Transcript provided by NPR, Copyright NPR.
