More Coloradans Expected To Travel During Thanksgiving Holiday
Despite gas prices, AAA Colorado projects that 737,000 Coloradans will travel for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday weekend. That’s an increase of 0.7 percent over last year.
AAA expected Coloradans to travel an average of 607 miles for the holiday. That’s down from 900 miles last year.
Nearly 88 percent of Coloradans expected to travel for the Thanksgiving holiday will do so by car. This is a 0.5 percent increase over 2011. AAA credits this trend to the shift toward shorter-distance holiday trips. Air travel is expected to decrease by 1.8 percent as 66,000 Coloradans travel by plane.
Median spending will be lower at $569 for this upcoming holiday period, 8 percent less than the $621 spent in 2011.
Nearly 44 million Americans are expected to travel at least 50 miles from home over the Thanksgiving holiday. AAA predicts the Wednesday before Thanksgiving to be the busiest travel day.
