National Parks And Forests Free For Veteran’s Day Weekend

Enjoying the great outdoors is even more affordable this weekend as the U.S. Forest Service, National Park Service andBureau of Land Management waive entrance fees at parks, forests and grasslands across the country.

All fees associated will day-use recreations sites across the nation are free Saturday, Nov. 10 through Monday, Nov. 12  The Veterans Day holiday is the last fee free weekend of 2012. The next is the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday in mid-January.

Fee waivers are offered in cooperation with other federal agencies under the Federal Lands Recreation Enhancement Act.

The Forest Service operates approximately 17,000 developed recreation sites nationwide. Of those, around 6,000 require recreation fees.

The National Park Service operates 398 parks nationwide. Of those, about 133 require recreational fees.
