A non-binding letter of intent announced today could form one of the largest hospital systems in the state.
Poudre Valley Health System and the University of Colorado Hospital Anschutz Campus say they want to investigate how they can work together to improve service and curb rising health care costs. The letter of intent gives them the license to explore how that might happen.
“Bringing together the two groups here…gives us an opportunity to learn from each other and really manage both quality and expenses,” said Bruce Schroffel, president and CEO of the University of Colorado Hospital. Schroffel, along with PVHS CEO Rulon Stacey, addressed a small group on Thursday in Loveland.
“Can we make our patients better off and will this improve patient care?” said Stacey. “That was the driving force at every turn for this organization, and how do we take advantage of the significant network that we have right now?”
The organizations stressed that any agreement would not result in a merger.
If it moves forward, officials say an organization will be formed to oversee strategic direction and an overall budget for the system. The timeline for establishing the agreement is early fall.
