Senate Initially Approves Civil Unions Measure

The state Senate had a lengthy and at times emotional debate on a bill to allow civil unions in Colorado. It's the second year in a row the Senate has taken up the measure. It still needs a final vote before it can move to the House, and this year the discussion showed more division among Republicans.

KUNC's Bente Birkeland has more from the State Capitol.

Bente Birkeland has been reporting on state legislative issues for KUNC and Rocky Mountain Community Radio since 2006. Originally, from Minnesota, Bente likes to hike and ski in her spare time. She keeps track of state politics throughout the year but is especially busy during the annual legislative session from January through early May.
