A 'Thrift Shop' Bump For Greeley Thrift Shops?
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' March 3 University of Northern Colorado concert isn't just creating buzz on campus. It may be boosting sales at some second-hand stores.
Their hit song “Thrift Shop” is currently ranked second on Billboard's Hot 100 behind another phenomenon that has ensnared a local university, "The Harlem Shake." Lyrics like "one man's trash, that's another man's come up" seem to be striking a chord.
"That song has just been fantastic for us, it is a riot and we really enjoy it," says Eric Bowers, store manager at Greeley's Arc Thrift Store.
Bowers says he can't show that the recent rise in sales is directly tied to the song "Thrift Shop" or the Macklemore & Ryan Lewis concert. He has noticed more college-aged adults visiting the store though.
"We do have positive sales increases, both volume of customers and sales in February. We actually had a successful month in January as well."
