2011 is shaping up to be another record-breaking year for Denver International Airport, the traditionally busy summer travel period has not disappointed.

Traffic at DIA increased 2.6% during the first 6 months of 2011, compared to the same period last year.  Spring and summer are popular travel times at the airport.

“Our busiest date was June 1, 2010 and this summer our busiest day was July 2,” says DIA Spokeswoman Laura Coale.

June traffic was up 1.5% this year and that is seen as a positive sign.

“Even though fares are generally up around the industry, Denver remains a competitive market, which is great for the consumer and great for our business here at the airport,” says Coale.

DIA generates more than $22 billion dollars for the region each year.  2010 was a record-breaker, with more than 52 million travelers passing through for the first time.  The continued uptick in travel numbers has officials optimistic that 2011 will be another record breaking year for the facility.  DIA is the 10th busiest airport in the world, and the 5th busiest in the U.S.
