The news broke last evening — President Obama thinks Rep. Anthony Weiner (D-NY) should step aside.
As our colleague Frank James wrote over at It's All Politics, that dramatically increased the pressure on Weiner to leave office because of the scandal over the lewd messages and photos that the married congressman has sent to numerous women in recent years.
Obama that:
"Obviously what he did was highly inappropriate. ... I can tell you that if it was me, I would resign."

Meanwhile, The Associated Press writes that "with a defiant Rep. Anthony Weiner resisting calls from colleagues to quit and President Barack Obama saying he'd resign if he were in Weiner's shoes, House Democrats are wrestling with how to put the embarrassing online sex scandal behind them. ... Democrats could try to oust the seven-term congressman from the House Democratic caucus or try to strip him of his committee assignment on the Energy and Commerce panel in hopes of persuading him to quit Congress."
Weiner is on a temporary leave of absence from the House as he seeks treatment.
