Voter Registration Mailer Missing Needed Info

The Colorado Secretary of State's office is warning residents about a voter registration mailing that went out this week from the Voter Participation Center.

Although the Center worked through the state’s Elections Division, the final version of the mailing is missing several items required under state law.

“The form fails to include a signature and an affidavit, essentially saying that ‘I agree everything in the form is accurate, I’m over 18, I’m a resident of Colorado and I’m a citizen.’ That’s all missing,” says Rich Coolidge, Director of Communications for Secretary of State Scott Gessler. “So essentially, the county clerks can’t accept these forms as registration.”

Coolidge says voters can verify their registration online at GoVoteColorado.com. Users can make changes directly through the website or print out and mail a state-approved voter registration form directly to the Secretary of State’s office or their county clerk.

UPDATE: 2-27-12 3:00 pm

According to a statement from the Voter Participation Center, which mailed more than one million voter registration applications to 27 states last week, a printer’s mistake affected the 17,291 forms sent to Colorado. After being informed of the problem, the VPC says it is mailing postcards to recipients of the mailing; and corrected, official registration forms will be sent to recipients in the coming weeks.
