We Kid You Not: Playboy's Hefner Tweeted His Engagement News

We only track Hugh Hefner's Twitter page for the tweets.

And starting on Christmas Eve there was this string in which Playboy's 84-year-old founder let slip that he had just gotten engaged to 23-year-old Playmate Crystal Harris. Take a break from the day's serious stuff to see how he did it. We don't know what, if anything, it says about the world we live in today. Maybe it's just interesting (or maybe not, you decide). Here's a selection, in chronological order:

-- Dec. 24: "Santa brought me Crystal Harris. I couldn't be happier."

-- Dec. 24: "Happy holidays to all our Twitter friends. May the new year be a great one for all of you."

-- Dec. 25: "After the movie tonight, Crystal & I exchanged gifts. I gave Crystal a ring. A truly memorable Christmas Eve."

-- Dec. 25: "When I gave Crystal the ring, she burst into tears. This is the happiest Christmas weekend in memory."

-- Dec. 25: "I got what I was hoping for for Christmas ... Crystal's love."

-- Dec. 26: "Yes, the ring I gave Crystal is an engagement ring. I didn't mean to make a mystery out of it. A very merry Christmas to all."

-- Dec. 27: "This has been a perfect Christmas weekend. Now it's time to stop tweeting & say goodnight. Sweet dreams."

Oh, and Hef also dropped in some gift ideas -- like a hard drive containing every issue of his magazine. Copyright 2011 National Public Radio. To see more, visit http://www.npr.org/.
