Wildfire Near Golden Grows

Jefferson County Sheriff's Department

Jefferson County sheriff's officials say a wildfire burning west of Golden has grown to more than 700 acres.

A red flag warning for warm temperatures, gusty winds and low humidity has fire officials on high alert today.

With the Indian Gulch Fire calming down overnight, officials reopened US Highway 6 Monday morning.  So far no homes have been evacuated but the fire is burning near a heavily populated subdivision.   Jacki Kelley, spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department, says that could change today if the forecast holds up.  She says crews are focusing their efforts on the northern and eastern flanks of the blaze.

Currently the fire is 15% contained.
