"Two administration officials" have told the Associated Press that former commerce secretary William Daley will be the next White House chief of staff.
We reported Tuesday that Daley, the son of one former Chicago mayor and brother of the current one, was being considered.
Rahm Emanuel, who is now running for mayor of Chicago, left the position last fall. The interim chief of staff is Pete Rouse.
Daley served in President Clinton's cabinet.
Update at 2:35 p.m. ET:Obama has made it official, introducing Daley at a brief White House session. "You have honored me and my family by giving me the opportunity to serve you and to serve your administration," Daley said.
