Mississippi Losing The War With Obesity

Roughly 1 in 3 adult Americans is now obese. And ground zero for the nation's obesity battle is Mississippi — where 44 percent of kids are either overweight or obese. And 7 of 10 adults in the state are either overweight or obese.

"For the sixth year in a row we remain the most obese state in the most obese country in the world, I guess making Mississippi the most obese place in the world," says Sandra Shelson, executive director of the Partnership for a Healthy Mississippi.

Horse Virus Outbreak Brings Economic Concerns

A deadly horse virus outbreak has caused the cancelations of numerous shows and competitions around the country – including in Colorado.  So far, there have been six confirmed cases of the Equine Herpes Virus-1 virus in Colorado horses, and agriculture officials have implemented new travel requirements for horses entering the state.

EHV-1 poses no threat to people, but it’s easily spread among horses and llamas, said State Veterinarian Keith Roehr.

The gourmet food truck craze that started in Los Angeles may be reaching its peak. These days, hundreds of gourmet food trucks are roving the Los Angeles streets, selling everything from Korean tacos to grilled cheese sandwiches, Indian street food to $12 hamburgers.

"It seems like every day, you see a new truck on Twitter," says Matt Chernus, who co-owns Grill 'em All. "It's getting to the point where you gotta wonder if this city can really hold this many trucks. Once you start seeing a copycat of every truck, you're going to see a downward spiral."
