Debuting in 1987, they became indie icons with albums like Surfer Rosa and Doolittle before going on a twelve-year hiatus. Last year, The Pixies recorded new music that has so far been released on two EPS. We'll hear some of those songs live, as well as old hits, and they discuss the recent departure of original bassist, Kim Deal.

Now, her band has released their debut Americana album, Small Town Heroes. In this episode, Hurray For The Riff Raff perform live and Segarra talks about her unconventional musical education.

Ryan Adams On World Cafe

In this Vintage Cafe session from 2011, singer-songwriter Ryan Adams had just released the album Ashes & Fire. Adams had taken a couple years off between recording his last record with The Cardinals and this one. At the time, the delay was unusual for the prolific singer-songwriter, though he did put out a vinyl-only metal record called Orion. He also spent time relearning how to play guitar after a serious hand injury.
