    The Pixies join host David Dye on this episode of World Cafe Words and Music from WXPN. Debuting in 1987, they became indie icons with albums like Surfer Rosa and Doolittle before going on a twelve-year hiatus. Last year, The Pixies recorded new music that has so far been released on two EPS. We'll hear some of those songs live, as well as old hits, and they discuss the recent departure of original bassist, Kim Deal.

After nearly a decade together, it was their recent show-stopping performance in the documentary Another Day, Another Time that captured wide-spread attention. Although 23-year-old singer-songwriter Caitlin Rose was born and raised in Nashville, she first rose to acclaim in Europe, where her debut album put her name on the influential UK music magazine NME's "Cool List" for 2010. Rose's confident voice and dexterous delivery have earned her comparisons to great country singers like Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn.

Thao And Mirah On World Cafe

Singer-songwriters Thao and Mirah recently paired up for a new collaborative project and perform together on today's World Cafe.

Singer-songwriters Thao Nguyen and Mirah Yom Tov Zeitlin are more commonly known on a first-name-only basis as Thao and Mirah. Last year, the two friends decided to take a break from their respective solo careers and work together on a collaborative project. The result is Thao & Mirah, released earlier this year on Kill Rock Stars to a warm popular and critical reception.
