The recent heavy spring snowstorms have not only boosted snowpack levels in much of Colorado. The storms have also led to an increase in avalanche danger.
Another winter storm is working its way across Colorado, bringing gusty winds and up to a foot of snow to some areas.
Colorado experienced some extreme weather in 2012. Last year broke more than 114 weather records for heat, rain and snow.
Colorado’s snowpack is still below average but has improved significantly over the past month.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has released its 2012 US winter outlook. It says the western half of the US could be in for a dryer and warmer than average winter.
