The High Park Fire Is 100% Contained

After 22 days and 87,284 acres charred, fire managers have announced that the High Park Fire is now fully contained. Mop up operations will continue to deal with hotspots on the edges of the fire.

Full Containment Expected on High Park Fire Saturday [Updated]

Crews are making good progress on the High Park Fire, with full containment expected at the end of Saturday. Incident Commander Beth Lund says the last place needing work is on the southwest parameter of the fire, near Buckhorn Road.

Waldo Canyon Fire Destroys 346 Homes Claims One Life [updated]

Colorado Springs Mayor Steve Bach delivered difficult news today, announcing that 346 homes have been destroyed on 34 streets by the Waldo Canyon Fire. The number eclipses the 257 homes burned in the High Park Fire, which was declared the most destructive in Colorado history.

Full Containment on High Park Fire Expected This Weekend [Updated]

6:30 p.m.

Containment is now at 85 percent for the High Park Fire.

11 a.m.

If current weather conditions hold, officials estimate the High Park Fire could be fully contained sometime this weekend.

“…which means it’s fully secured, it’s not out by any means,” said Incident Commander Beth Lund during a morning briefing.

About 1900 evacuees are being allowed back into their homes today. Rist Canyon reentry will take place at 5 p.m.

Lower parts of Stove Prairie and Paradise Park will be opened up today as well.
