According to CNN, early estimates put the death toll around 100. More than 1,000 other people were reportedly injured. Both figures could change substantially as more information comes in.
Five earthquakes rocked central Oklahoma early today, according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The most powerful tremor struck at about 2:00, central time this morning, northeast of Luther. That's a little less than 30 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The quake's magnitude was 4.2. Other tremors had magnitudes between 2.8 and 4.2.
There's been a strong earthquake, with an estimated magnitude of 7.8, in southeastern Iran near the border with Pakistan, the U.S. Geological Survey reports.
The temblor was centered about 53 miles east southeast of the small city of Khash. According to USGS, it was about 9.4 miles deep.
