Toola, An Otter Pioneer Who Raised Orphan Pups, Has Died

Toola may not be a household name, but she made quite an impression on the staff of the Monterey Bay Aquarium, where she lived most of her adult life.

Just look at how Dr. Mike Murray, an aquarium veterinarian, described the sea otter:

"I will argue that there is no other single sea otter that had a greater impact upon the sea otter species, the sea otter programs worldwide, and upon the interface between the sea otters' scientific community and the public."

Report Critical of Large Water Storage Projects

The second in a two-part report released Tuesday by a Boulder-based conservation group projects that water managers in the Arkansas River basin can exceed expected water demands by implementing a mix of conservation and small water storage projects.

Letter Urges Test Of Rocky Flats Plutonium Dust

Several residents around the former Rocky Flats Nuclear site have written a letter to cities including Golden, Broomfield and Westminster. They’re urging them to ask the Environmental Protection Agency to test dust being kicked up on the east side of the site.

 The residents are concerned about possible plutonium particles in the dust along an eastern section of the Rocky Flats National Wildlife Refuge.  The area they want tested is on land being considered for sale to construct a section of the Jefferson Parkway Toll road near Golden.
