It's been an emotional week for the area, and especially for residents directly affected by the Waldo Canyon Fire. Those who live in the evacuated areas in Colorado Springs have been anxiously awaiting word of their homes, many of which burned earlier in the week.
The Waldo Canyon Fire continues to rage west of Colorado Springs consuming more than 15-thousand acres. Containment stands at just 5-percent. There’s still no word on how many structures have burned, and hundreds of firefighters continue to battle the blaze.
It’s already shaping up to be an expensive firefighting year. The tab for fighting two of the state’s worst blazes – the High Park and Waldo Canyon fires – is now approaching $40 million and climbing.
