Editor's Note: The High Park Fire started on Saturday, June 9th. Winds and high temperatures helped the fire rapidly spread. The High Park Fire has scorched more than 43,443 and is only 5% percent contained. Fire mangers say part of the difficulty in fighting the fire is because the fire itself isn’t behaving in a typical fashion.

Crews are struggling to get the upper hand on several large, destructive wildfires burning across the parched southern Rockies. In Colorado, the High Park Fire that sparked over the weekend has quickly grown to be one the largest wildfires in state history.
