Colorado teens looking for jobs will see a tough job market this year, but initial numbers released by the outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas are showing a positive start. Employment of 16- to 19-year olds grew by 71,000 in May nationwide, a “vast improvement” from the previous year.

This week, the U.S. Department of Labor announced more than $9 million in job training grants for veterans, including those in Colorado. The money comes at a time when Afghanistan and Iraq veterans are struggling to find work.

The hiring of seasonal jobs helped pushed down unemployment rates in more than 90% of the nation’s largest cities last month. But the numbers are somewhat mixed in Colorado.
