A two-day summit between President Obama and his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, is being described as a "unique, positive and constructive" meeting that reportedly produced broad agreement on handling North Korea and put the thorny issue of cybersecurity at the forefront.

It was hoped the summit, which wrapped up Saturday in California, would be an opportunity for the two men to establish a personal relationship weeks after Xi assumed the presidency in China.

Over the weekend, President Obama met with Chinese President Xi Jinping. The two leaders pledged to build a new model of relations. Before coming to the U.S., President Xi spent three days in Mexico. In years past, China and Mexico have kept each other at arm's length as both competed to manufacture cheap goods to send to the U.S. But that seems to be changing.

President Obama always intended to talk about spying this weekend. But not like this.

He's getting to know China's new leader at a sprawling estate in the Southern California desert this weekend, but domestic controversies have followed him there.

The president veered off his talking points Friday to spend more than 10 minutes defending a pair of massive surveillance operations that the media recently disclosed.
